About the Student Advisory Board
Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo established the Student Advisory Board (SAB) in 1993 to give young people a voice in our government. The Board is made up of high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who live in or attend school in her Congressional District. Past SABs have researched issues important to students and made detailed legislative recommendations to Congresswoman Eshoo. Congresswoman Eshoo invites all interested students to apply and join the 30th annual SAB cohort.
Eligibility
Candidates must:
- Be high school sophomores, juniors, or seniors residing or attending school in Congresswoman Eshoo’s Congressional District.
Not sure if you’re a constituent? Check here. Please note that our Congressional District lines have changed.
- Attend and participate in mandatory Zoom meetings twice a month on Wednesday evenings.
- Participate meaningfully in additional group and independent work outside required bimonthly meetings.
- Be responsible, enthusiastic, and dedicated to collaborating with peers and Congresswoman Eshoo’s staff in a respectful and timely manner.
Congresswoman Eshoo and her staff pride themselves on providing the best possible experience to the high school students in our Congressional District. To do so, we expect students to act professionally, arrive on time, and be actively involved in the Board.
Any student who misses more than 2 meetings without an excused absence or who does not adequately contribute to group projects will be dismissed from the Board. Excused absences must be cleared by a member of our staff at least 24 hours before our scheduled meetings will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Our staff will deny any request for verification of volunteer hours or for college admissions if a student is dropped from the Board.
Meeting Schedule*
The 2023 Student Advisory Board will meet virtually twice a month over Zoom. Participation in additional group and independent work are expected outside of our required bimonthly meetings. Board members should expect to commit at least 4 hours of work per week for meetings and assignments.
Once admitted to the Board, members will have the opportunity to run for Leadership Office. Officer positions require a minimum of 6 hours/week due to their additional responsibilities. Find a description of the roles
