Eshoo Statement on Shootings in El Paso and Dayton

August 4th, 2019

PALO ALTO, CA — Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) released the following statement regarding the shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio:

“This morning, America is reeling. From the loss of life in Gilroy, California, to the massacre in El Paso, Texas, to the Dayton, Ohio tragedy last night, families haven’t buried their dead as another community is torn apart. The shooters’ bullets have taken the lives of so many loved ones, and they also pierce our collective conscience.

“Laws can help to change this and Congress must act swiftly. No excuses. The words of national leaders that set a tone in our country can either raise people up or encourage acts of hatred.

“My prayers are for the families who are anguishing in grief and for our country to unite around the timeless values of tolerance, decency, and oneness.”
