Rep. Eshoo Votes to Pass the Equality Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18), a long-time advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, voted to pass the Equality Act, landmark legislation that would explicitly prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in education, employment, housing, credit, jury service, public accommodations, and the use of federal funds.
“In a nation that espouses equality for all, it’s absolutely unacceptable that in 29 states, Americans can still be evicted, fired from their jobs, or denied a loan because of who they are or who they love,” said Rep. Eshoo. “The Equality Act is a monumental step toward ensuring that all Americans can live their lives free from the fear of discrimination. This legislation is long overdue and I’m eager to see it signed into law as soon as possible.”
