Rep. Eshoo Sworn in as Member of the 117th Congress, Urges Colleagues to Put Country Over Party

January 3, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) was sworn in to the 117th Congress by Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

"Today I was honored to take the oath of office and swear to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic," said Rep. Eshoo. "Our country is facing historic challenges caused by the pandemic and the American people need Congress to work together to help guide our nation through this difficult time."

"As we begin a new Congress, I'm stunned that some Members are actively working to undermine our democracy and the will of the American people by challenging the results of the Electoral College," continued Rep. Eshoo. "Never before in our nation's history has the majority of a major party sought to overthrow an election. We must put country over party and focus on the enormous challenges facing our nation, including combatting the COVID-19 pandemic. Addressing the public health and economic crisis will continue to be my top priority, and I will work with the new administration and my colleagues to address these needs."

In December, Rep. Eshoo introduced legislation to update the Congressional oath of office to include a pledge to put the Constitution above any person or political party. More on this legislation HERE.
