Rep. Eshoo Statement on the Environmental Protection Agency's Proposed Greenhouse Gas Findings

Washington, D.C. - Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (D- Palo Alto), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, issued the following statement in response to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Jackson's announcement that carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perflorocarbons and sulfurx hexafluoride are greenhouse gases that endanger the welfare and health of the public. The proposed findings also state that emissions from motor vehicles contribute to climate change. The EPA will conduct a 60-day comment period, and two public meetings on the proposed findings.

"This is another example of the new Administration taking the threat of climate change seriously and using scientific evidence to make informed decisions. We are at a key juncture of the climate change debate in our country. I'm confident as a Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee that we will craft and pass comprehensive energy and climate change legislation this year and we will work with the EPA to ensure that the welfare of our citizens and the planet are protected from harmful greenhouse gases."
