Eshoo Statement on Votes to Codify Right to Abortion
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18) voted today for two bills to protect and reaffirm women’s right to abortion: the Women’s Health Protection Act, which codifies Roe v. Wade nationwide, and the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act, which prevents states from stopping anyone from traveling across state lines to obtain a legal abortion.
“The Supreme Court has created chaos and confusion across the country by overturning Roe, resulting in a patchwork of states with differing laws and restrictions. Americans now may risk prosecution if they choose to travel for a lawful abortion,” said Eshoo. “The legislation I voted for today protects the right to travel for a lawful abortion and universally ensures every American has equal access to reproductive health care, no matter where they live.”
