Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Health Subcommittee Chairwoman Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18) released the following statement today after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down as unconstitutional Louisiana’s law requiring abortion providers to obtain admitting privileges at a nearby hospital:

“Today’s Supreme Court ruling in June Medical Services v. Russo is a victory for women’s healthcare nationwide. The case would have imposed the onerous and medically unnecessary requirement that abortion providers in Louisiana have admitting privileges, and when abortion care is restricted, women face devastating consequences. Women should be able to make the deeply personal decision of whether to continue their pregnancies free from political interference and today’s ruling affirms that right. While today’s ruling is a positive one, states continue to pass laws that limit access to abortion, so I will keep fighting for the right of every woman to make decisions about her own life, body, and future.”
