Eshoo Statement on Passing of Ambassador James Hormel

August 13, 2021

PALO ALTO, C.A. – U.S. Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18) released the following statement on the passing of former U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg James Hormel:

"Our country lost a great patriot today with the passing of Ambassador James Hormel. He was a trailblazer for equality and a source of inspiration to so many as the first openly gay ambassador in U.S. history. His legacy lives on in the many women and minorities he lifted up, and in the countless lives he changed by elevating the LGBTQ community in foreign policy and at home. My prayers are with his husband, Michael, and his children, Alison, Anne, Elizabeth, James Jr. and Sarah as we mourn the loss of a magnificent human being."
