Eshoo Statement on Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Historic Nomination to the Supreme Court

February 25, 2022

PALO ALTO, CAU.S. Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18) released the following statement on the nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court to replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer:

"In nominating Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, President Biden brings forward a distinguished woman with a set of unique and exceptional credentials: A federal public defender; a federal appellate judge; a federal district court judge; a member of the U.S. Sentencing Commission; and an attorney in private practice. This is an historic nomination with Judge Jackson being the first Black woman to serve on the highest court of our nation. A former clerk for Justice Breyer, whom she is nominated to replace, Judge Jackson is highly qualified and has proven herself a fierce defender of the Constitution. Having three times been confirmed by the Senate with bipartisan support, she should be confirmed swiftly."

"Four words are engraved above the doors of the Supreme Court: Equal Justice Under Law. I am confident Judge Jackson will make these words walk into the lives of the American people."
