WASHINGTON, D.C.—Rep. Anna G. Eshoo, Ranking Member of the Communications and Technology Subcommittee, released the following statement praising the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) announcement of a voluntary industry solution to achieve interoperability in the lower 700 MHz band of wireless spectrum:

"The announcement of a voluntary industry solution to achieve interoperability in the lower 700 MHz band is a win for all consumers. I congratulate FCC Chairwoman Clyburn and the wireless industry for forging an agreement that promotes robust competition, innovation and the continued growth of the wireless marketplace.

"On the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, this agreement coupled with the important work underway to build a nationwide, interoperable public safety network will ensure our first responders are equipped with the 21st century tools needed to communicate seamlessly."

In January, Rep. Eshoo urged the Commission to develop a solution to interoperability in the 700 MHz band in a joint letter with Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) and Reps. Doris O. Matsui (D-Calif.) and Michael F. Doyle (D-Pa.).
