WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rep. Anna G. Eshoo, D-Palo Alto and a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement on the capture of former Iraq dictator, Saddam Hussein.

"Today is a great day for the Iraqi people with the capture of the brutal dictator Saddam Hussein. This is the first step in bringing justice to the millions who suffered for decades under his iron rule. The extraordinary work of our troops and their daily sacrifices have made Hussein's capture possible. The role of the intelligence community and human intelligence have been key in his capture as well.

"I urge the Administration to use today's capture as an opportunity to change course and constructively engage the international community to bring about a free and democratic Iraq."
