Eshoo Statement on 200,000 COVID-19 Deaths in U.S.

September 22, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Health Subcommittee Chairwoman Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) released the following statement after the U.S. eclipsed 200,000 lives lost to COVID-19:

"Tragically, the U.S. has now eclipsed the milestone of 200,000 American lives lost to COVID-19. We are the greatest country on earth and yet we have the most cases and the most deaths of any nation in the world. The government that was supposed to protect and guide us through this crisis has failed, while so many Americans have demonstrated courage, compassion, and self-sacrifice beyond what should have been asked of them.

"As the President and Senate Republicans continue to ignore passing a critically needed, science-based plan to save lives and save our economy, it is the health and the economic health of Americans that are paying for this historic incompetence.

"I hope today's grim milestone will create new urgency for the White House and Senate Republicans. The American people deserve so much better."
