Eshoo Statement on $125 Million in Funding for Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority

August 28, 2019

PALO ALTO, CA — Today, Rep. Eshoo released the following statement after speaking directly to the Secretary of Transportation, Elaine Chao, about the Administration's announcement of $125 million in funding for the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority's (VTA) BART Silicon Valley Phase II project:

"I've been a strong advocate of BART's extension to Silicon Valley for over a decade. The $125 million investment to connect BART with Caltrain in the South Bay will relieve traffic congestion and support the continued growth of our region's economy."

Rep. Eshoo has been a tireless champion of public transportation on the Peninsula and in the South Bay, having led the effort to secure $647 million in federal funding for the electrification of Caltrain. She and her Bay Area colleagues previously secured $900 million for the Silicon Valley Bart Extension which will ultimately connect BART from Fremont to downtown San Jose and Santa Clara.
