Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Health Subcommittee Chairwoman Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) and Energy Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following joint statement today after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 7666, the Restoring Hope for Mental Health and Well-Being Act of 2022. The legislation passed the House by a vote of 402-20.

“As our nation continues to confront the mental health and substance use disorder crises, the House took decisive action today to help restore hope to millions of Americans.

“The bipartisan legislation passed by the House will bolster critical prevention, care, treatment, and support programs for Americans of all ages—especially children, underserved communities, and those in greatest need. The legislation strengthens mental health parity laws so that more Americans have coverage of these critical services. It also expands access to lifesaving medication-assisted treatment and provider training to help Americans recover from opioid addiction. Finally, the bill strengthens Medicaid behavioral health services for children.

“Today’s overwhelming vote is a testament to the months of work that went into crafting this comprehensive bipartisan package. We’re grateful for the collaborative work of our colleagues on this bill to address these dual crises and look forward to swift action in the Senate.”
