WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18), Chairwoman of the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee, voted for final passage of H.R. 1319, the American Rescue Plan Act, life-saving legislation that will provide urgently needed resources to defeat the virus, put more vaccines in people’s arms, money into families’ pockets, get children safely back into classrooms and people back to work. The legislation now goes to President Biden for his signature.

“The American Rescue Plan is more than just a shot in the arm for 300 million Americans. It’s a Vitamin B shot for all of America,” said Rep. Eshoo. “Whether you’re a college student or a working Mom, you’re going to benefit from this bill. The direct payments, housing and food assistance, unemployment aid and other financial investments in this plan will lift nearly 12 million people out of poverty, cutting child poverty in half. The legislation also expands health insurance for millions and ensures every American is vaccinated by this summer. Our Congressional District will receive $883 million for local governments to protect the jobs of first responders, frontline public health workers, teachers, transit workers and other essential workers. It includes $102 million to help reopen schools safely in Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Santa Cruz Counties. This transformative bill brings us closer to the day when we will be able to hug our families, have coffee with friends and celebrate birthdays in person again, and I’m eager to see its benefits reach people as soon as possible.”
