WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Health Subcommittee Chairwoman Anna G. Eshoo (CA-18) released the following statement in response to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Stephen Hahn’s announcement that the FDA will not sacrifice safety standards in its approval of any new vaccines for COVID-19:

“American lives and livelihoods rely on the availability of an effective and safe vaccine for COVID-19. Today, the FDA made a critically important announcement that it will maintain its high regulatory standard through a science-driven approval of a COVID-19 vaccine. The FDA provided guidance to vaccine manufacturers about the clinical data needed to meet the FDA’s requirements for efficacy, safety, and controls. The announcement will strengthen public confidence and trust in the vaccine development process. With this guidance, FDA confirms it will not reduce its standards or cut corners in its vaccine review.”
