Eshoo Announces Extension of Deadline for Wildfire Disaster Assistance

October 8, 2020

PALO ALTO, CA – Representative Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) announced today that the deadline to apply for federal assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Small Business Administration (SBA) has been extended to November 21st for ten counties in California, including San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz Counties.

"Tens of thousands of my constituents have had their lives turned upside down by a historic wildfire season and they need all the help they deserve to receive," said Rep. Eshoo. "The rebuilding process after a devastating wildfire can take years and extending the deadline to apply for critical federal assistance will give families the extra time they need to take stock of the damage and receive the support they deserve. I'm so grateful to the State of California and FEMA for this extension."

FEMA's Individuals and Households Program provides federal disaster assistance that can include rental assistance, home repairs, personal property losses and other disaster-related needs that are not covered by insurance. Individuals and families can apply for assistance by visiting www.disasterassistance.gov; by downloading the FEMA app to a smartphone or tablet; or by calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 (TTY 800-462-7585) between 7:00 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. PDT.

Businesses and individuals can apply for low-interest disaster loans from the SBA through the SBA's Virtual Disaster Loan Outreach Center by calling (800) 659-2955 or emailing FOCWAssistance@sba.gov Monday through Sunday from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PDT.
