Eshoo and Pallone Blast Administration for Withholding Info on Hydroxychloroquine

September 16, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C – Health Subcommittee Chairwoman Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) and Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today in response to the Trump Administration's refusal to hand over documents related to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) denial of an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) request to use hydroxychloroquine for certain COVID-19 patients:

"The Trump Administration continues to refuse to release the decision memorandum and denial letter issued by FDA in response to a request for an Emergency Use Authorization for hydroxychloroquine," said Eshoo and Pallone. "The drug has had serious health consequences when used to treat COVID-19, and the public has a right to know the critical scientific information in the agency's denial of the EUA, especially as the Administration is stockpiling the drug and advancing it during the COVID-19 crisis."

Eshoo and Pallone have made repeated requests for a copy of the agency's decision memorandum and denial letter, beginning on August 14, 2020.
