Cathy Kelly of the Santa Cruz Sentinel reports on Rep. Eshoo's speech at the 33rd annual Valley Women's Club in Ben Lomond.

Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Palo Alto, drew laughter from the crowd by saying she had been sitting in the audience thinking the scene reminded her of a Norman Rockwell painting.

Eshoo said she worried conservatives lawmakers would enact such crippling budget cuts that they would damage the economic recovery, environmental safeguards and more.

"I do think we are turning the corner, but I worry immensely that the cuts will be so deep they will really harm our collective future," she said. "We have our work cut out for us."

Applause erupted when she lambasted a House measure to cut Planned Parenthood funding, defended Social Security and said the Internet should be kept free and open.
