Federal Radio News: Lawmakers commit to cybersecurity in letter

Leading lawmakers sent a letter to the President last week signaling their commitment to strengthening national cycbersecurity.

In a recent speech to the Computer and Communications Industry Association, Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) said "the more we rely on the Internet to conduct our business, the more vulnerabilities we create for hackers to exploit."

Eshoo said the government and the private sector must work together to increase security. While the government must secure its own networks first it must also create a process by which private industry can report cybersecurity breaches. Eshoo says private industry accounts for about 95 percent of Internet presence.

Eshoo said she was encouraged by the administration's ideas for increasing cybersecurity but says provisions in the President's policy directive are not being implemented quickly enough.
