Special Emergency Update
January 4, 2023

Dear Friends,

As the Atmospheric River Storm rolls through our communities, I urge you to stay indoors and prepare for severe weather. The National Weather Service warned that the storm could cause dangerous flooding, strong winds, downed trees and power lines, landslides and rockslides, and power outages across our District. Rain is expected to continue throughout the weekend and impacts could be severe.

If you have not done so already, I urge everyone to sign up for emergency alerts to remain informed about evacuation warnings and safety precautions.

Safety tips:

  • Unless you need to evacuate, do not travel on Wednesday or Thursday.
  • Do not walk, swim, or drive through flooded areas.
  • If you need to travel, check road closures and flooding in real time at https://aware.zonehaven.com/search
  • Stock up on sandbags if your property is particularly prone to flooding (you can find more information here about nearby sandbag stations).
  • If you see a downed power line, leave the area immediately and call 9-1-1. Then, call PG&E at 1-800-743-5000.
  • For tips from the National Weather Service on what to do during flooding, click here.
  • Pack a "go bag" to help evacuate quickly.

Stay safe and if my office can be help, please call (650) 323-2984.

Sincerely,
