Keystone XL Pipeline Won't Live Up to Promises

e-Newsletters

Dear Friends,

In an op-ed printed in the May 17th edition of the San Jose Mercury News titled "Keystone XL Pipeline Won't Live Up to Promises," I wrote about the misinformation that has been spread over the airwaves and in Congress regarding the Keystone XL pipeline proposal.

Keystone XL is a pipeline project proposed by the Canadian company TransCanada to transport tar sands oil, one of the dirtiest fuels on earth, from Alberta to the Gulf Coast for export. It's been touted as a jewel of a jobs and energy project. I believe construction of this pipeline carries more risks than benefits to the American people, which is why I'm urging President Obama to reject final permitting for the project. He is currently awaiting a final assessment of the project from the State Department to determine if Keystone XL is in our "national interest."

Below are links to my op-ed in opposition to Keystone XL, as well as to a letter I sent today to the President with 30 other Members of Congress, expressing strongly our view and the view shared by millions of Americans. Should you have any questions or comments, please let me hear from you.

Most gratefully,
