A Weekly Update From Rep. Anna G. Eshoo

HERE'S WHAT CONGRESS DID THIS WEEK

Introduced an Amendment to Trumpcare, Abandoning Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions (April 26, 2017)

This week, the Republicans in Congress attempted, and failed again, to vote on their highly unpopular health care bill that would lead to higher costs, less coverage and an age tax. Their latest proposal is a disaster. Eviscerating the essential health benefits and protections for pre-existing conditions will make it all but impossible for millions of Americans to afford the health coverage they desperately need.

KEY STATEMENTS

Eshoo Decries Pai Effort to Undo Critical Net Neutrality Rules (April 28, 2017)

"There is a clear theme in Ajit Pai's brief tenure as FCC Chairman—dismantlement. First it was the evisceration of privacy protections on the internet and today it is net neutrality rules that advance competition, innovation, small businesses and entrepreneurs. This reversal benefits the interests of the largest Internet Service Providers (ISPs)." To read the full press release, CLICK HERE

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHT

On Monday, April 24th I called on the Trump Administration to approve federal funding for the Caltrain electrification project. The Caltrain rail corridor has been the spine of our transportation system on the Peninsula for over 150 years, but today the trains are just as overcrowded as our highways. This is a shovel-ready project that will employ 10,000 Americans with good jobs. We cannot wait any longer to bring this system into the 21st century.

ANNA IN THE NEWS

Mountain View Voice- "Eshoo goes after Trump on tax-return secrecy" (April 25, 2017)

"President Donald Trump's tax returns and his refusal to release them was topic No. 1 for Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Menlo Park, who took questions for about two hours Saturday, April 22, during a town-hall-style meeting in a gymnasium at Canada College in Woodside.

A bill written by Eshoo would require this president and all future presidents to publicly disclose their tax returns." To read the full article, CLICK HERE

CBS SF Bay Area- "Officials Call On Feds To Approve Caltrain Electrification Project" (April 25, 2017)

"Eshoo, D-Palo Alto, described Caltrain as an essential transportation system and part of the "economic backbone" of the Bay Area. Eshoo said that the project, which is backed by major business groups from San Francisco to San Jose, meets every requirement for the federal grant and is supported by state and voter-approved local funds, but is being held up by "bad politics."

"This is bad, bad politics," she said. "It's shameful that anything like this would happen. The American people deserve better, certainly the people of our region deserve better." To read the full article, CLICK HERE
