Anna's Weekly Report

Weekly Report
November 4, 2022

Dear Friends,

This week the Bay Area and our entire nation were shaken to the core when Paul Pelosi, Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, was brutally attacked in their home in San Francisco, and I’m sickened by this act of political violence.

The attacker didn’t become a violent extremist on his own, nor did the people who attacked the Capitol on January 6th. They were fueled by rampant misinformation and wild conspiracy theories spewed on every social media platform by the former president, by far-right news media, and by extremist elected officials who refuse to recognize election outcomes and the consequences of their own words.

This is taking a dangerous toll on our country and it has to stop.

I’m praying for the Pelosi family and for our country during these trying and difficult times.

Legislation Anna Cosponsored This Week

GI Bill Restoration Act

In 1944, the GI Bill was signed into law, providing low-cost mortgages, low-interest loans, and educational benefits to World War II veterans. However, many Black veterans were denied these benefits as a result of Jim Crow laws and widespread discrimination. I cosponsored legislation that aims to correct this injustice by extending access to GI Bill educational benefits and the VA Loan Guaranty Program to the surviving spouses, children, and grandchildren of Black World War II veterans who were denied benefits because of their race.

Madeleine Albright Democracy in the 21st Century Act

According to the annual assessment of global democracy conducted by Freedom House, only 20 percent of the world's population currently lives in countries classified as “free” down from 46 percent in 2005. I cosponsored legislation this week to support democracy across the globe by increasing funding for pro-democratic activities abroad, including efforts to promote free elections, independent media, and pro-democracy civil society groups.

Town Hall Meeting on Climate

I held a Virtual Town Hall Meeting this week with Former Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz. We answered questions from constituents about the climate crisis and recent legislation that made the largest investment in combatting the climate crisis in U.S. history. It was an honor to host Secretary Moniz from his office at MIT and me from Menlo Park. You can view a recording of the event HERE.

Casework Spotlight

Every week constituents contact our District office for assistance. We were recently contacted with a request for help with ongoing mail theft at a local apartment complex. My office contacted the U.S. Postal Service regional headquarters in San Francisco, and they worked with the local post office to order new, tamper-resistant Modified Arrow Locks (MAL). The locks were installed this week in cooperation with building management.

Case closed!

The staff in my Palo Alto office work daily to address the wide-ranging problems or concerns constituents have with a federal government agency. Any time you need assistance, contact my office HERE.

Covid-19 and Flu Vaccines

The FDA authorized the bivalent Covid-19 booster for children ages 5 years and older. This booster targets the highly contagious Omicron variant of Covid-19, as well as the original strain of Covid-19.

Those 5 years and older who had a Covid booster at least two months ago are now eligible for this new booster. For those who experienced a Covid-19 infection and it was at least three months ago, you are also eligible for the new bivalent booster. You can sign up immediately for a free appointment at your county’s website below, and it’s very easy to do.

Flu season is upon us! The flu and Covid-19 vaccines are safe to receive together, and most vaccination centers will have both available. Learn where you can get your flu vaccine here:

Covered California Open Enrollment

At you can quickly calculate the savings you qualify for and sign up for a plan that offers comprehensive benefits. In the Words of My Constituents

Every week hundreds of constituents call and write to me to express their concerns, share their passions, and ask questions regarding legislation and policies. Over 115,817 constituents have contacted me this year. I actually read every communication and every constituent receives a personal response to their specific questions and comments from me.
