Greetings!

There may be noissue more critical to our nation's future than energy independence. Our national security is irrevocably linked to it. Our economicstability depends on it. The future of our planet - the legacy ofhealth and prosperity we all want to leave for our children - cannot beassured without it.

I'm very proud to have helped write and vote for the American Clean Energy and Security Act,which passed the House today by a vote of 219-212. The bill guaranteesan investment of $190 billion in new, clean energy technologies andenergy efficiency - creating jobs, spurring on new industries andfulfilling the desire of all Americans that each of us in our own waycan make a better world, a cleaner environment and a safer nation.

In our home districtof Silicon Valley, dozens of burgeoning companies at the cutting edgeof clean energy technology are poised for an explosion in innovationand healthy, sustainable economic growth.

The American Clean Energy and Security Actwill create new jobs and establish an economic revival that will bringnew growth and expand the U.S. economy. It will save consumers hundredsof billions of dollars in energy costs, and cut global warmingpollution 80% by 2050.

I'm providing youwith two documents that explain how the bill will create jobs, promoteenergy efficiency, and save money for consumers.

During the Energyand Commerce Committee Markup of the bill, I was also able to includeseveral amendments. These provisions will help drive the adoption ofenergy efficient information and communications technologies in thefederal government, incentivize renewable energy projects such as solarprojects, and create a National Clean Technology Business Competitionto help accelerate the growth of clean technology companies in America.

I'm particularlyproud that my own bill, H.R. 1742, providing financial assistance tostate and local governments for the deployment of regionalinfrastructure to support the widespread use of electric vehicles, hasbeen included in the sweeping and visionary agenda that is the American Clean Energy and Security Act.

The nation is hungryfor clean energy and for a reversal of the damage caused by climatechange. This bill of historic proportions will shape new and innovativeways to reinvent the American economy to restore and create jobs, andto leave the next generation an environmentally healthy and sustainableworld.

We are a hardworking people who face the future with optimism and hope. The American Clean Energy and Security Actembodies such qualities - a vehicle for our willingness to work hard,to innovate, to imagine a better future and then to dare to reach outand grasp it.
